The
Grow Your Own Grub
website provides a comprehensive guide to growing
four different vegetables with a class of children during
the summer term. The site gives staff practical information,
comprehensive lesson plans, learning resources and fun
activities for pupils.
The project is
designed to promote healthy eating, improve access to
affordable fresh food and raise children's knowledge of
food-related environmental issues.
The resource was
developed in 2006 from a practical project run by members of
a Healthy Eating Project at Portsmouth City Council for
inner-city schools with limited outdoor growing spaces and
with little or no previous experience of growing food.
The project
identified a lack of resources widely available to schools
both locally and nationally.
